Labour Day (in April)

Saw the obstetrician on Thursday morning. He decided that our huge baby didn't need to cook any more and that it was time to induce. We booked into Prince of Wales Private for 8:00pm Thursday and would have been there on time had dad-to-be not missed the turn-off to Randwick in the heavy rain, but mum-to-be then gave us a different bum steer nearer the hospital, so it was 1-1 with no sin bins.

Midwife applied the Prostin (sp?) at about 10:15pm, monitored for a while, then packed us off to bed at 11:30pm or so. Megan then woke at 2:00am feeling contractions, so stirred me, which took a couple of goes. Had a crack at some Panadeine Forte (useless), then m2b jumped into the bath for a while, which was some relief. (I ran the bath successfully and hence felt of tremendous worth.) Had a quick check up and was 3-4cm dilated with labour progressing well, but pain increasing significantly. Had a go at the gas (just her, not me) and Megan worked through the pain amazingly, until at about 5:20am we decided on the epidural option. Tim the Anaesthetist arrived amazingly promptly and had the epidural in place by about 6:00am, after which the midwife broke Megan's waters when she was 5cm dilated. Since then the pain has eased massively despite contractions increasing and we've had time for breakfast, a wash down and a blog post.

Next examination is at 11:00am, but we're certainly looking at a birthday of 29 April.
